Dr. Saeed Mohamed Alshamsi

Dr. Alshamsi is a seasoned diplomat who joined the Emirates Foreign Service in 1974. In his long career, Dr. Alshamsi served his country as Charge d’Affaires, then Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States of America, Germany, Denmark, India, Australia, New Zealand, Nepal, Norway, Finland, Sweden, the Republic of Ireland, and the Republic of Maldives.

He also served as the Director of the Economic and Political Department in the Presidential Court. Furthermore, he was appointed Assistant to the Foreign Minister of the UAE in charge of the International Organizations, Humanitarian and Foreign Aid, and the Research and Studies Departments while assuming the role of the Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan. He participated in several Regional, International, bilateral, and multilateral Conferences, including the UN General Assembly.

He pioneered open support of women’s empowerment, particularly in the UAE. He also addressed women and gender equality at the United Nations Third Committee in 1974. He participated in several international women’s conferences, including the UN Women’s Year Conference 1975 in Mexico City, Mexico.

Dr. Al-Shamsi received his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science in 1974 from Arizona State University, USA; a Master’s Degree in International Public Policy, in 1977, from the School of International Advanced Studies (SIAS), Johns Hopkins University, USA; and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in International Relations, 1986, (International Organizations and Law, Political Theories and Meddle East Politics) from the American University, Washington, D.C.; and International Arbitration Certificate, from Alexandria University, in 2000, Alexandria, Egypt. On the private front, Dr. Alshamsi owns Emirate International Consultant, which represents and helps foreign companies establish their business in UAE, providing advice and assistance to contribute to the success of many international companies. He is the President of “the Retired Diplomats Council” (RDC) in UAE.
